Parental age can affect the health of a baby. Teenage mothers and women over 35 years old are more likely to give birth prematurely (before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy). Babies born prematurely have an increased risk of disabilities and health problems. Women over 35 face an increased risk of developing placental problems, diabetes, and high blood pressure during pregnancy.
